However, any PET bottles or tetrapacks can be used, which must be disposed of afterwards. In order to be able to easily remove the concrete later, the mold is sprayed with oil before pouring. Required materials and tools:
- lamp socket
- Two PET bottles for the mold – a small and a larger one
- 1 thread
- Cordless Screwdriver
- 2 – 3 screws
- Creative concrete or cement
- 1 empty can
From two PET fakes, you can make a mold yourself and develop it yourself if you are able to choose the PET bottles so that they fit together as size and shape. The larger one cut off about 1/3 of it. The covers of the two bottles are drilled in the center by means of the cordless screwdriver. Insert the small bottle into the large one and fiexiren with the thread the two in the correct position. You should remember that the distance between the two bottles will actually be the thickness of the lamp walls.
To keep the two bottles stable in the desired position, tighten 3 -4 screws. The machined thread should be at least as thick as to allow the connection cable to run loose (7 mm diameter should actually be sufficient). Now take the can, flip the bottles and place vertically into the can. This makes the mold easier to pour.
Mix the concrete in a pot under a bowl of water. You can make the mixture more liquid and gradually add it to the self-made mold. Wait a short time between the concrete layers so that no unsightly air bubbles are formed. Fill up to the screws that you have previously tightened. Allow to cure for one day. The next day, you can free the concrete lamp from the outer PET bottle to let it dry for another three days.
Remove the outer PEt bottle layer when the concrete has already hardened slightly but is not yet solid. With a cut knife you can clean the edges. The next day try to remove the smaller PET bottle from the concrete lamp interior carefully. Try first with cautious turning movements. After complete drying, treat the surface with fine-grained sandpaper and smooth it off. Finally, remove the threads and insert the socket and the connection cable. If the concrete lamp is damaged in some places, it is possible to repair the mold afterwards. For this, mix a little cement with water and fill the empty areas with a small spatula or chopsticks.
Prefabricated concrete from the construction market has a slightly more beautiful look compared to the creative concrete. The first serves as a building element, forms larger holes and therefore does not have a decorative effect. On the other hand, creative concrete dries evenly, is fine-pored, and in the rarest cases small breaks are formed at edges. In addition, the concrete look has a slightly porous appearance.
